2022 has been a year of makeover for the Gamelanders VALORANT team. In January, the organization announced the arrival of four new players to its Riot Games FPS roster, with Guilherme “Nyang” being the only remaining athlete from the previous roster.
Despite Gamelanders being a newly formed team at the time, the lineup managed to have a reasonable campaign in the VCT, qualifying for the playoffs and finishing the tournament in 5th/6th place. According to Nyang, the lack of chemistry among the players and the short preparation time hampered the team at the beginning of the tournament.
“For sure [a falta de entrosamento prejudicou], but it’s not plausible since NiP and LOUD, the two teams that went to the Masters, were also new teams. I believe the biggest problem was that, despite having four players who had already played together, a lot needed to be adjusted and every change needs an adaptation period”, said the player in an interview with Mais Esports.
Due to these problems, Gamelanders had a troubled start at VCT BR 2022. The team lost its first two matches in the tournament, but the team went through an evolution curve during the competition and managed to finish the group stage with a record of 2 -two. Because of this, he qualified for the playoffs and kept his spot in the competition without having to go through relegation, which ended up being very positive for the evolution of the lineup.
“We stopped putting into practice [no VCT] a lot of what we trained, but even so I can say that our team improved during the group stage. We decided to focus on one step at a time and ranking was our first objective. Unfortunately, as we slide along the path, we depend on results [de outros times], but I’m glad we were able to sort it out. Not playing the relegation gave us extra preparation time.”
Despite the team having managed to qualify for the VCT BR playoffs, Gamelanders was not satisfied with the 5th/6th place. A few days after the end of the tournament, the organization announced the departure of Vinicius “v1nNy” from its VALORANT roster.
In his place, Gamelanders hired João “Brinks”, a player who had been competing for the TikTok Tropinha. When asked about the move, Nyang preferred not to compare the two players, but he highly praised his new teammate and stated that the experience has been positive.
“With the entry of Brinks, we also changed the role that Chase played (from flex to Launcher/Raze) and I return as IGL. Brinks, who enters the role of Flex/Initiator, is a player who, in addition to having an absurdly accurate aim, is very smart about the use of resources. The experience has been positive and we are finding our own style of play.”
NYANG’S EXPERIENCE CAN HELP THE TEAM IN VCT BR
A member of Gamelanders since June 2020, Nyang has had several experiences in VALORANT wearing the organization’s jersey. From moments of glory when defending the best team in Brazil at the beginning of the competitive scene to a complete revamp in the roster in 2022, IGL certainly has a lot of baggage in the FPS from Riot Games.
This experience gained by the player in VALORANT can certainly be one of the factors that will help in the evolution not only of Gamelanders, but also of their individual game. For Nyang, this is the time to put his knowledge into practice to help his team and his teammates in the next edition of VCT BR.
“One of the main factors in the separation of the Gamelanders starting lineup is due to the divergence of thoughts on how VALORANT should be played. I argue that a team, to reach its peak, needs time together. Also understanding that for a team to work, everyone needs to be in the same boat. We are looking for players who are willing to put this into practice.”
“Without a doubt, sacrificing myself for the team is one of my greatest characteristics and I always try to learn from my teammates and absorb all the knowledge while I dedicate myself to improving individually. I believe I still have a lot to learn, but I feel like I’m evolving with each passing day. Without a doubt, all this experience makes me a better person and player and now is the time, as IGL, to pass that on to the team.”
The next edition of VCT BR 2022 starts this Saturday (14) for Gamelanders. The team will make its tournament debut against LOS Grandes. According to Nyang, the team’s fans can expect a more consistent team than what was seen in the first split of the year.
“You can expect a more consistent Gamelanders.” It’s time to really put into practice everything we talked about and trained during this preparation “, concluded the player.
